Magic Moment of the Month - December 2007

A Dream Disney Vacation

When Amanda, age 16, from Alabaster was asked what her magic moment would be, she knew instantly that she wanted to go to Disney World with her mom and younger brother, Matthew. The previous year had proven to be a difficult one as Amanda had been diagnosed with a rare form of T-cell lymphoma which attacked the skin around her midsection and under her arms. Because the cancer is so uncommon in children, treatments have been complicated and can sometimes lead to severe dehydration. As you can imagine, she was in much need of a break!

Amanda and her family set out for Orlando early in November. She was filled with anticipation and excitement as this would also be their first big family vacation together. Once they arrived at Give Kids the World Village, Amanda and her family immediately knew they were extra special. Everyone went out of their way to make this experience one they would never forget. After settling in at their villa, they hit the roller coasters. They even rode some of them three and four times! Amanda enjoyed the dolphin show and getting to see all of the animals at Sea World. She also received some comic relief while at the Magic Kingdom’s Laugh Floor Comedy Club, an interactive comedy show based on the popular movie, Monsters, Inc.

Amanda is doing well and is enjoying her 10th grade year of high school and marching in the high school band.
