Magic Moment of the Month - March 2007

Katie Takes a Ride

Little Katie, a seven-year-old girl from Montgomery has Wolf-Hirschorn Syndrome.  This rare condition has caused problems with Katie’s motor skills resulting in her spending the majority of her time in a wheelchair.  When she started physical therapy at Children’s Hospital, Katie had the opportunity to ride an adaptive tricycle which gave her the independence she had longed for.  Riding this bike quickly became her favorite activity.

When Magic Moments approached Katie about granting her a wish, she didn’t hesitate before saying she wanted a tricycle like she rode at therapy because then she would be able ride with the rest of her family.  Katie’s mom and dad had tried on their own to create their own home-safe version of this bike and never imagined Katie would have the real thing, specialized just for her.  When Katie received her new Freedom Cycle it was exactly the magic moment she had hoped for.  Katie’s mom said she loves it and that the bike has given Katie her first real sense of independence.  Katie spends every sunny day laughing and full of joy as she playfully rides ahead of her family on her very own tricycle.
