Shop ‘Till You Drop!
Shelby, a 17-year-old from McCalla, was a normal healthy teenager but that quickly changed this summer. She was sick for several days and after much review from doctors at Children’s Hospital, her family received the frightening news that she had liver failure and was in need of a liver transplant. Doctors prepared her for the transplant hoping that a donor liver would come soon. To much surprise, Shelby received the new liver just 12 days later. After spending several days in the hospital, she got to go home; however, things are a little different for her now. Her diet has drastically changed, and she’s on 12 daily medications.
This has not slowed Shelby down though. Like most teenage girls, she loves to shop so when asked what her magic moment would be, she immediately knew she wanted a shopping spree at the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham. Just recently, Shelby and her sister, Lindsey, met Magic Moments volunteer, Melissa Talbert, on a warm Tuesday afternoon to shop the day away. After picking out perfume, a new purse and several pairs of shoes, it was time to move on to the clothes. Shelby hit the ever-popular Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch in search of the perfect blue jean jacket – one of her favorite purchases. Other favorite finds included a pink North Face jacket and an I-pod Nano with video capabilities.
Shelby is doing fantastic now and is back in school enjoying her senior year armed with a new wardrobe and a new outlook on life.
