An Angel for Erica
For such a small girl, she has been through more than her share of hard times. Erica, now 6-years-old, was born prematurely and weighed less than 2 pounds. In the first year of her life, she underwent numerous surgeries on her spine and heart. Then, just last year, she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft-tissue cancer. Erica has been undergoing treatments since 2005 and doctors indicate she is progressing well.
When Erica was approached by Magic Moments, her wish was to meet her favorite American Idol, Ruben Studdard. Soon Erica was riding in a limo to McCormick and Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant where her dream to meet Ruben was about to come true. Ruben did not keep Erica waiting for long. He greeted her with a bag of surprises, and she gave him a big teddy bear. As they waited for lunch to arrive, Ruben and Erica played games and talked. To top off Erica’s magic moment, Ruben sang her favorite song, “I Need an Angel.” After her day with Ruben, Erica said the only thing that could top her magic moment will be the day her trach is removed.
