Magic Moment of the Month - September 2006
Six-year-old Alexis from Montgomery has cerebral palsy and her number one wish was to go to Disney World and stay at Give Kids the World. Her mission was to meet none other than Belle from Beauty and the Beast and Mayor Clayton, the Mayor of Give Kids the World Village. As you can see from the picture, Alexis did get her magic moment in July of this year.
Alexis could not wait to get to the Village after receiving a letter from Mayor Clayton a week before her trip. She asked for the letter to be read to her several times and began to call Give Kids the World “her village.” Alexis also loved to look at the pictures of the Village on the website and would ask, “When are we going to MY village?” Her mom said as soon as they drove up to the Village, Alexis began to say, “Get me out. I am here! I am here! Where is the Mayor?”
Alexis finally saw Mayor Clayton -- who happens to be a 6-foot-tall bunny rabbit -- while visiting the life-size Candy Land game. She was so excited to see the Mayor that she couldn’t even say hello! However, she found her voice again when her favorite bunny came to tuck her in one night and bounce on her bed. She asked if he could do it every night.
Alexis spent most of her time at Give Kids the World riding the carousel and train, eating ice cream from the Ice Cream Parlor, and watching the dinosaurs move at the Putt Putt Golf Course. She truly enjoyed every minute of her magic moment. With the assistance of wish chairman Scott McArdle and his firm, McArdle & Whitman who sponsored her wish, all of Alexis's dreams did indeed come true.
